Generative Ornament - Prof. Dominik Schumacher (TheGreenEyl, Berlin, New York)

Workshop participants will experiment with the software Processing (processing.org), to get in the process of creative coding. As an example, they will work together with Prof. Dominik Schumacher on the topic of generative ornaments and object-based programming. They will use the library controlP5 that will support the workflows and experiments. - Prof. Dominik Schumacher will guide them through the process of creative coding, making little experimental sketches, setting up a framework and bringing together all the little experiments into one overall setup. 

Requirements for the participants:
– Basic English, enough to understand the code. 
– Basic knowledge of coding with processing or another code-based language. 

Technical requirements:
– A laptop, pencils and paper. 
– Preinstall the following software and library: www.processing.org, www.sojamo.de/libraries/controlP5/ as a basic setup.

Prof. Dominik Schumacher
Prof. D. Schumacher is a full professor for Interaction Design and head of the department of Industrial Design at Magdeburg-Stendal University. He is founding partner of the design studio TheGreenEyl in Berlin and New York. Previously Prof. Schumacher taught nationally and internationally at numerous universities. At the Berlin University of the Arts he was an artistic associate at the Advanced New Media Class Prof. Joachim Sauter. He holds a degree in digital media design from the Berlin University of the Arts, studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and is a professionally trained engineer in industrial electronics, fluent in Spanish, German, as well as English. His work was awarded and exhibited at Kunsthalle Mannheim, E-Arts Shanghai, Ars Electronica, Europrix, Japan Media Arts Festival and D&AD, among others.
