Animation rigs in TouchDesigner – Yan Kalnberzin & Evgeny Afonin 

This workshop will cover working with characters and skeletal animation in TouchDesigner. Yan Kalnberzin & Evgeny Afonin talk about where to get 3D models, how to use the bone tool to import animation, and mainly, what to do with animation in TouchDesigner. Yan and Evgeny will review some examples of VJ setups with animation controlled by sound and other external data, as well as various methods of working with animation curves in a CHOP context. 

Technical requirements:
Participants will need a gaming laptop with an Nvidia Geforce 670 video-card, or higher. Windows 8.1 or 10. Touch 99 free or paid version.

Level: intermediate (experience working with TOP,SOP,CHOP,DAT program contexts).

Yan Kalnberzin 
Russian video and media artist. Graduated from the Tsiolkovsky Aviation and Technology Institute in Moscow. Yan was an active figure in the underground during the 2000s as part of the musical group PBOYUL. A pioneer of stop-motion animation in Moscow, author of the video clip for the song 'Sea Lilies' by Deti Picasso. Participated in Russian and international video art and music festivals including Hype, Empty, Syberfest, MIGZ festival, Abracadabra Festival, Worldtronic. A member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 2009. One of the founders of Russian Visual Artists, a company involved in multimedia art and new technologies. He created video and special effects for theatre performances, including 'Agatha Returns Home' (Praktika Theatre, Moscow, 2010), 'The Tale of the Golden Cockerel' (Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, 2011), 'Doll House' (Priyut Komedianta Theatre, St. Petersburg, 2013), hip-hoppers 'Cops on Fire' (Mayakovsky Theatre, Moscow, 2010), Dorian Gray (Ermolova Theatre, Moscow, 2013), Sugar by I. Vyrypaev, and many others. Co-author, alongside Evgeniy Afonin, of the interactive scenography for the sculpturesque performance 'Living Room' (Atelier Caroline Carlson, Paris 2013).
Creator of a show during the Moscow Light Festival using mapping software on the building of the Hotel Moskva (2011).
Currently engaged in creating videos for sculpturesque performances and interactive multimedia installations. International and Russian exhibitions participant, teacher of a proprietary course in interactive programming using TouchDesigner.

Evgeniy Afonin 
Russian media artist, video artist, programmer, developer of interactive installations. Co-founder of the Russian Visual Artists studio, winner of the 'Golden Mask' theatre award for interactive video and sound for 'Awakening' at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Co-curator of the Curiosity Media Lab, curator of the TouchFest festival.
Evgeniy was born in Moscow in 1983. He has been creating video art since 2003, appearing as a VJ in a number of clubs and festivals (such as Kazantip, MIGZ festival and Abracadabra Festival).
Since 2008, he has been working in the fields of digital and multimedia art. He is an expert in 3D and 2D graphics, video mapping, generative graphics, kinetic objects, computer vision systems and other interactive systems.
He takes part in a great many projects and festivals, including Mars Center (Life zone, Orient Express, Interart), Plums Fest, Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, Art Residence / PovArt and Yota Space.
