Organizing a festival in a museum/park space. A festival as a live museum exposition – Olga Arshanskaya (Light Nights Festival)

A museum as a space for organizing events. How does one resolve the conflict between ‘preserving’ and ‘developing’? A creative residence as a means of organizing a festival in a museum context. A festival audience: evolution from consumption to active perception and co-creation. Festivals and local communities. How to get the local communities to accept a museum as their own?

St. Petersburg International Festival of Light Art "Light Nights" in Gatchina is an artistic exhibition of light and multimedia installations in a museum space. The festival is a creative lab for artists’ experiements with new technologies and natural park landscapes. The programme of the festival includes light art objects created by artists from Russian and abroad, videomapping, interactive installations, a multimedia show and fireworks, performances and plastic arts shows.
