Prototyping complex setups for digital art projects – Savva Mikhaesku and Alexander Volkov (Inty Studio)

When working on complex digital installations, developers often come up against the issue of not being able to visualize all the elements of an installation in their integrity, lacking a cohesive vision of the end-result. This is where prototyping tools come in. They help synchronize the work of multiple screens, projections, sound and light by laying out the setup on a virtual ‘canvas’. Being able to align and integrate all the elements of the installation gives digital artists the creative freedom they need.

This lecture will explore the topic of prototyping installation based on the experience of Interactive Installation Studio Inty. Various approaches to the process will be analyzed, in the context of the digital installation business reality. There will be a demo of virtual prototypes for real installations with a detailed description of their functionality and making-of stories.

Key topics to be covered: how prototyping became an integral part of the prep process for Inty projects; how this stage is inscribed into the Studio’s overall pipeline; what are the benefits of the prototyping stage, and how it can impact the end result; what tools are used by Inty to create virtual prototypes for future installations and digital spaces; how designers organize their work around virtual prototypes, and what opportunities open up for them as a result.

This lecture will be presented by lead developer Savva Mikhaesku and co-founder Alexander Volkov (Inty Studio).
